The Interactive Zodiac
Constellation Map

Overview

This project was a group effort in collaboration with the Loyola Environmental Program. We were tasked with creating an advertisement for the Stargazing Event, one of many events that take place during Loyola's Earth Week.

Key Elements

The Interactive Painting had two wheels each containing 6 of the Zodiac Signs. In the center of each wheel was a star. When a user would touch both the center star and one of the zodiac signs the connected computer would play an audio about the selected zodiac sign. We also had major landmarks from New Orleans make up the skyline in the back to draw connection to our city.

My Roles

The Canvas

I helped Amy paint the background as well as the skyline on the canvas. I also worked with Amy and Mia to do the lettering on the canvas which advertised the Stargazing event.

The Connections

I attached the foil pieces as well as the conductive tape to the back of the canvas. This would be connected to dual ended alligator clamp wires which would be attatched to a circuit board with a USB-C cable connector.

The Digital Elements

I found and organized all information for the Zodiac Sign descriptions. I then recorded and organized each file into the Makey-Make program that would be connected to the circuit board that is connected to the canvas.

I also created the video that would be played alongside the map that explained how the map worked.

Reflection

This project taught me how to create interactive artwork and really sparked my interest in interactive exhibits. This was my first experience truly combining my love of art and my interest in design and a huge reason I switched to have a concentration in UX deign.
